Electric Shock First Aid Treatment

Victim of electric shock by lightning strike or high voltage may suffer electric burn, with supervenient affect on her/his heart or lungs after the shock.

First Aid Procedures

  • Cut off power supply.
  • Separate the victim of shock from contact with electricity. (Never touch directly the victim’s body before cutting off the power supply.)
  • Perform artificial respiration or heart massage depending on the condition of the victim (if it doesn’t still work, keep first aid treatment on the way to hospital).
  • After the victim regains her/his normal respiration, she/he needs to keep warm and calm, half sitting and half lying, and give her/him more oxygen as needed.
  • Observe carefully if the victim may suffer supervenient shock.
